Lazy indian, swindling gaucho, contemporary artist
Espacio Diagonal, Buenos Aires
2014
Macho, gaucho, minimal.
How can minimalism be recreated behind the cattle gates? How and to what end can it be recomposed in vernacular terms? If not through its primary structures, then through its arrogant and masculine pathos.
The title of the exhibition served as a subtitle that, while pretentious, failed to encompass everything on display in the show. At play in it is the absurd ambition of using the aesthetic field to take to the limit local archetypes of identity. How can the contemporary be questioned from the boundaries of Argentineness?
The other, the pariah. Straddling the stud of modern sculpture between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, this work is revealed in three discrete instances: the advertisement (homoerotism for export), the white cube (with its spurious primary structures), and local celebration with the classic sausage sandwich (choripan).
Telluric, queer, and relational.
